Glossary
The following are just some of the technical words and concepts which are reguraly used in web design.
HTML

Database
A database is an organized collection of data. One possible definition is that a database is a collection of records stored in a computer in a systematic way, such that a computer program can consult it to answer questions. For better retrieval and sorting, each record is usually organized as a set of data elements (facts). The items retrieved in answer to queries become information that can be used to make decisions.
Search Engine Optomization ( SEO )
Is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a Web site by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. It is common practice for Internet users to not click through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search is essential for directing more traffic toward the site.
SEO helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.
Content Management System ( CMS )
It is a server based software system, using a database, that makes it easy for non IT people to manage the content of even the most complex websites using nothing more than a standard browser or simple software.
Domain name
Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages.
Web Server & Website Hosting
A computer that delivers (serves up) Web pages. A web server usually has a high speed connection to the internet and are constantly running
Website hosting is the process in which a website is placed upon a server so it can be viewed by anyone who chooses to do so. A good anology for this would be to Think of the Web Server as a shop window and the website as the clothes inside the shop window, The clothes are viewable by anyone who chooses to look.
